new space and other things

i moved to a larger booth.  this was taken march 1 - and i've added much more stuff.  if you are around red bank - please stop by the Monmouth Antique Shoppes and say hi!  i'm there on sundays but you are always welcome!

on broadway in long branch they have painted a whole block of condemed buildings... this is one of the many very cool paintings.

in asbury park on the boardwalk the old carousel building is empty, waiting for something to happen.  the copper has a fabulous verdigris.  wonder what will become of it all?

fi fo faux

i was at an estate sale on saturday and found some highly patterned paper, and i had this box, and copper paint, and an old (1890s) encyclopedia with very thin paper not usually good for most things and thought this would be a cool faux antique box.  i love the way it turned out.   i started out with the top.  fabulous.  then i distressed the hell out of the box - screwdriver, white paint, texture crackle, sandpaper (lots), distress ink in burlap and old paper.  then i glued paper on the inside and added somemore burlap distress ink on the edges.  i also did a faux mercury glass on some glass knobs and added them as well.

monmouth antique shoppes

If you're ever in or around Red Bank NJ, please stop by a wonderful group of shoppes inside an antique building... even the floors creak!  I've been collecting for the last few years and was offered an opportunity to open a shoppe of my own.  I really thought I had lots of stuff, but now I'm really questioning why I bought some of the things I did!  I think it will be an excellent opportunity to learn about antiques and vintage (which I love), so it is deffinately a win - win.  I just opened last week and I have made some sales.  Now to replenish!  I will also need to work 1 day a week (Sunday will be the day) so it should be fun!

paper wreath ala susi

seems as though everyone has been making these paper wreaths.so i figure, why not... i got a lot of books that i bought when i first started buying old books.  not good for much but great for a wreath!  a lot of the wreaths i saw had used a straw wreath for a base.  i didn't have one of them but i have a lot of cardboard, so i used two plates (outer circle/inner circle) cut them out, started rolling my paper (used a glue dot on each one to hold the roll), then stapled each one to the ring.  being this was my first, it's a little uneven on thickness.  if i were to make another, i would definately space them out but put more layers.  for the inside of the circle, i stapled on the back, and used another glue dot to attach it to the one it's in front of.  i cut another small rectangle and stapled to the back top, folded a piece over and used my crop-a-dile to put a hanging hole.  put that on the screw on the door and voila! a paper wreath.  easy peasy.
